 Older Program Compatibility CAD

I have a 1997 CAD program that is fine with XP, but with my new computer and Vista, when I select "FILE", "SAVE", the program simply exits!!?? I have the compatibility set to Windows 97 SP. In all other respects, the program functions correctly. Is there some other security setting that I've missed that causes this action? How can I diagnose why this is happening? The software is no longer published or supported by it original publisher.

Get a new CAD program or get an old OS to conduct CAD work. Migrate your drawings to a modern CAD system. It's way past time, since this question is four years old.
