Yes, that's correct. We're correcting a number of questions throughout the site, which adds them to the first page of ITKE (based on the recent activity). I'll try to keep the newest questions on the first page to make it easier for you to find.

See Welcome to the (slightly) new ITKnowledgeExchange for the general comment item for the new format. It was a slightly obscured posting in the 'Recent Blog Posts' area. -- Tom

Nobody has any comments at all to add to the blog post? -- Tom

Hi guys.  I have not been participating much on the site recently, and I didn't know about that slightly obscured blog post...

    Adding my comments now...

On a side note, I know comments on blog posts are moderated, but that is not obvious.  When one submits a comment, the site doesn't tell the comment will not be displayed until the moderator has reviewed it, and that could make people think that something went wrong and the comment needs to be re-submitted.

Thanks for the feedback Carlos! I'll see if we can get an email to go out to users who have comments caught for moderation (Similar to the email that's sent out for questions).

Yes Phil. I do have some good news that our development team is currently working on a widget for the most recent unanswered questions. This should be coming out within the next few weeks.

don't know if "recent unanswered questions" works .. sometimes people put entries in the answer field that aren't and sometimes discussion continues after answer is posted.  And lots of questions never have an entry in the answer.

The problem which appears to be occurring now is that the date of most current activity is being updated by your clean-up activities.

Thanks Phil - we understand the issue regarding our cleanup, and will see what we can do about that. In the meantime, the 'recent unanswered questions' list should give you a window into what's newest on the site, and items will stay on that list as long as there are no answers (comments don't count). Once a question gets answered, it will be removed from that list but activity will still be reflected on the homepage/tag pages (when there is further discussion after an answer is given).

As you mentioned, sometimes there will be questions where an answer is given in the comments and not in the answer box. We've always encouraged using that answer box when it makes sense, as that will be what is reflected on the main pages, and what users will look to first.

IMO, only the OP (or possibly a moderator) should alter the 'Answer' by selecting what works. The major flaw is that it gets used most often by cheap vendors trying to advertise their products. When something appears as "The Answer", it looks as if the site is somehow presenting it that way. -- Tom

What I've learned in the few short weeks that I've been pretending to be an expert on this site.

    I rarely know the answers.

I often think I know the answers.

I'm usual given incomplete or incorrect info from the OP

Therefore, I never enter an answer, just discussion.

I assume that the OP will select the answer or write an answer.. and then push the resolved button ... er we don't have a resolved button.

The OP rarely selects or enters as answer, they may have already resolved the issue, or use our recommendations to resolve the issue but have no payback in updating the page with the resolution info.

    Phil

If you don't have a response that really fits in the 'answer' section, then yes, comments are the way to go. We encourage OPs to give as much detail as possible and be prepared to respond to questions, but it doesn't always happen - they also do have the ability to 'accept' an answer (aka resolve), though this step is often missed. In some cases, there is no real 'answer' - those types of questions will fit better under our new 'Discussions' section when it launches.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that our new "recent unanswered questions" widget will be released this afternoon. When you're logged into the site, it will appear above the "featured questions" widget. When a question is discussed, it will remain in the widget. But when a question is answered (using the answer wiki), it will be removed automatically.
