I have a few old Windows 98 machines in my office. I have some HP laserjet 1300 printers that I would like to attach to each of them. One of them had the correct driver already on it. The others don't. HP no longer provides the driver for windows 98, and I cannot find it anywhere online. Is it possible for me to pull the driver off of the one that has it, and install it on the other machines manually? I don't know much about printer drivers, but I would imagine that there are a group of files that I would need to locate. For various reasons, upgrading the operating systems is not an option for me at this time. Any insight into this problem would be appreciated.

A solution to enable extracting of drivers that are already installed on systems, and copying to other systems, is a tool called DriverMagician (which works on 98).
http://www.drivermagician.com/index.htm
Another is DriverMax… http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/ (may not work on 98).
You may have tried it but HP has an auto-detect driver utlity at http://h20270.www2.hp.com/ediags/gmn2/index.aspx?detectProducts=Start+Detection+%BB&lc=en&cc=us
Hope this helps some.
Sorry bout the previous links…

you can also use the HP III driver on this printer. I am using it now on an old server to run that exact printer and it works fine. Unless you need some special printing features that the 1300 driver provides that the HP III driver will not.
