Old backup exec software for agents
I am getting a backup server with backup exec 12.5 to backup all of my data that is now being backed indvidualy on 20 machines. My question can I use the current software on my 20 machines as agents to backup up to my new backup server. I have versions raging from 4.5 to 11.0

Answer Wiki:
update the agents to avoid any issues with the server. 12.5 needs the current agent to properly backup remote servers. You of course will need to license the remote agent on all the target servers. If you use granular restore, backup exchange or SQL, I believe you have to have the current version installed

Backup agents from 11d are compatible, but I agree that you should update the agents to 12.5 as soon as possible.

So are you saying out of all of the the 20 licences i currently have, I can use the 4 licences of backup exec11d for windows server then convert them to backup agents and then buy remote agents for the rest of the servers?
