Hello, Have an older Lotus Approach '97 DB App here that I have been asked to see what it would take to get back working in our XP enviroment. This is about 10 Approach Databases in an relational type of setup with about 2000 records and 150 or so custom layouts. Have messed with it a bit and for the most part Approach '97 seems to work fine under XP. Question is anybody out there running this old app successfully under XP and what issues should I be aware of? Looked on Lotus/IBM site and do not see any current version of Approach avaiable, unless it is avaiable in one of it's "smartsuite" packages. What would be the suggestion in getting this setup into something current, with a minumal amount of layout work? Thanks!

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

My intial suggestion would be to upgrade to the latest version of your software. I was able to find several places online that offer the SmartSuite 9.8 package for $20 to $40 US in about 20 seconds of searching.

From IBM's websit (http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=479&uid=swg21201973); "Lotus software announced the availability of IBM Lotus SmartSuite 9.8 in December 2003 and Fix Pack 3 (FP3) for version 9.8 in October 2005 for the Microsoft Windows XP platform." And I was able to confirm the dirt cheap prices for the SmartSuite 9.8 package at lots of internet vendors. The question I'd have is, does that $20 include a license to use the software in a business environment? IBM's website is offering a license and one year of support for $281. That may be mostly for the support, but you should check into it before buying 100 copies. An OEM version, which is what you're likely to get for $20, MAY require you to purchase a license to activate the software. It's up to the publisher of the software, and I don't know IBM's policies on this.
