 Offline Folders caching everything.

Having some trouble getting offline folders working properly under WinXP: Offline folders replicates all top level folders from a network share, not just the top level folder I select: I select a folder from servershare (i.e. serversharefolder1) to make available offline. The entire folder structure and contents under the share is then cached locally, not just the single folder under that share? I would expect that just folder1 and it sub-folders sould be replicated, not the entire contents of the share - all the documentation I've read indicates that the granularity of offline files allows for even a single file to be selected. Any advice much appreciated - I really need to be able to select only specific folders for synchronization. Many Thanks. More info: Manual caching is set on the shared folder on the WIn2000 server. "My Documents" is re-directed to servershare. Have tried: Several different PC's... Re-setting the offline folders... Deleting all offline files... Formatting the destination drive containing the csc folder...(destination drive moved to d: using cachemov.exe) Latest Service packs and patches all round...

I point My Documents to my "home" network drive and just make it available offline. The My Documents directory is essentially treated by Windows as a drive, so it is very easy to make available. On my home network, I can maike any folder available for offline use from my Linux server. Could be some type of rights issue on the server.

I’ve resolved the problem – there’s a group policy setting that stops the My Documents folder replicating in it’s entirety…

Details from Policy editor below:

All redirected shell folders, such as My Documents, Desktop, Start Menu, and Application Data, are available offline by default. This setting allows you to change this behavior so that redirected shell folders are not automatically available for offline use. However, users can still choose to make files and folders available offline themselves.

If you enable this setting, the users must manually select the files they wish to be made available offline.

If you disable this setting or do not configure it, redirected shell folders are automatically made available offline. All subfolders within the redirected folders are also made available offline.

Note: This setting does not prevent files from being automatically cached if the network share is configured for “Automatic Caching”, nor does it affect the availability of the “Make Available Offline” menu option in the user interface.

Note: Do not enable this setting unless you are certain that users will not need access to all of their redirected files in the event that the network or server holding the redirected files becomes unavailable.
