We just upgraded MS office from 97 to 2003. Problem is since the upgrade, 1 in house user and a few remote users no longer access a Excel download file from the 400 (using a .dtf). Get message "Errors were detected in VDR.xls" "Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel attempted to recover you formulas and values, but some data may have been lost or corrupted." Person running the transfer is W2K SP4 and CA Express V4R5M0 SP67276. I'm leaning its a problem with W2K because found another machine w/ W2K and the file wont work. Anyone w/ XP is no problem. Any ideas?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

The only issue I can see is that you are still on an older version of Client Access. I would suggest if possible upgrading to a lease a 5.x version of CA Express. The version you are using may not even be supported in Windows XP.

this is a great example of why it is important to stay current with releases of software. I am using iSeries Access V5R4 against my V5R3 iSeries. So, you certainly can upgrade your iSeries Access ahead of the version on the iSeries; even this might help. When was V4R5 released and what did they know about Office 2003 at that time?

I have seen this issue before, although not with your particular combination. There is a known issue with rev's of OS and Ofc versions. You noticed this when the XP users do not have the problem. I would go post this up on Woody's Lounge (www.wopr.com) where there is a plethora of absolutely great folks that know Office inside and out. -jmw

I just had an issue similar to this. New office with access at v5r1. Could not upload a excel spreadsheet to the 400. Loaded v5r2 client access with current service pack and the upload worked fine.
