It depends on what products you currently have installed. What do you use for word processing now?  (The 'Answer' above might be enough for you, but there can be better choices.) -- Tom

Generally .odt is default file extension of Open Office Writer which is same as MS Word. U can simply install Open Office/ Libre Office and they both able to open this kind of file very easily. U can also use ODT Viewer (a small tool & free) which helps to open the same file. It is also possible to save the same file with extension .doc by clicking File>Save As. But 1st u must open the file in Open Office/Libre Office.

If an appropriate version of Word is installed, nothing else is needed to open .ODT files for word processing. But either Libre Office or Open Office can be installed for free, as can Lotus Symphony. -- Tom

If u have Office 2007 SP2, it is possible to open .odt file directly. If u have Office 2007 with SP1, it is recommended to dnld Sun odf plugin for MS Office/ earlier version u have to dnld plugins for open this kind of file. However, Open office/ Libre office both r free to use.
