Odd Network Controller!

Hardware, Microprocessors, NIC, Microsoft Windows, OS, Servers, SQL Server, Security, Desktops, Management, DataCenter, Networking

My HP Compaq nx6110 was stollen last month but recovered by the police last weekend. My hard disk had been sold, so I got new one, but on reinstalling the system, the ethernet network adapter - which used to run with the Broadcom 4400 10/100 Drivers on the Application Recovery DVD - doesn't install properly.

It says, "Device cannot start Code 10" when I force install the Broadcom drivers.

The device's Instance ID is: PCIVEN_14E4&DEV_4402&SUBSYS_440214E4&REV_024&AD1B67F&0&70F0

Pls what else can I do to get the adapter working again? The wireless connection is not readily available everywhere.

Hello,

Try removing the adapter from device manager and then reboot your computer. Upon reboot the adapter will be recognized by the OS and re-installed. Then update your drivers.

Good night and Good luck!

Just a thought. I would use the WLAN to connect to the internet and then check the HP website to see if there is an updated driver for your NIC.

Hope this helps.

If the device picks up the same instance ID, it may be a problem with the XP registry. You may have to follow instructions similar to these:
<a href="http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=123" rel="nofollow">http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=123</a>

Got this from a Google search.
<a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Device+cannot+start+Code+10%22" rel="nofollow">http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Device+cannot+start+Code+10%22</a>
There’s other links, but this sounds promising.

Also HP-COmpaq sometimes uses TWO CDs for recovery.

A friend was reinstalling his and received similar driver problems. When I ask about the disk title he read off “XP Home to be used with Recovery Disk”. When he searched further he found out there was indeed another disk that simply said recovery. The disk he had tried first (and found bootable) was a companion CD with a stripped down/crippled copy of the XP Operating System.
