Good point Mrdenny. Actually MCTS cert helps to prove ability to implement / troubleshoot, & debug a particular MS technology (as u mentioned), like Windows OS / MS exchange server or MS SQL Server and also MS Visual Studio. There is also Microsoft Certified Professional / MCP includes opportunities to connect with a vast, global network of MCP(s).
Also remember, earning MS certs validates proven experience & knowledge in using MS products and solutions.

I believe that we talked over email about this. To summarize, look at the books that are around to fill in your knowledge gaps.

When taking the Microsoft exams remember that the MCTS exams are designed to show a breadth of knowledge for a product, while the MCITP exams are designed to show a depth in understanding of a specific job function. That's why in SQL 2005 for example we had the MCTS: SQL Server 2005 and then two MCITP certifications, one for DBA and one for DBD. This has changed slightly with the SQL 2008 exams as there are two MCTS certifications. They still show breadth of knowledge of the product, just with a slightly different spin on it.
