Hi, We are planning to migrate our NT4 server and Netware 4.1 server to a new Windows server 2003. Both servers are for file sharing purpose. We are going to migrate NT4 server 1st. Our plan is install AD on a new IBMx235 and migrate users & groups and files from NT4 using ADMT v3. The problem is we intend to use the same domain rather than a new domain as we have a lot of extra work to do on client side. The other way is to install a BDC on new IBMx235, promote to PDC and perform an in place upgrade. But we facing drivers problem for NT4. Is there anyway we can use the same domain name in NT4? Domain rename in win2003? After NT4 migration we need to migrate from Netware 4.1. At this stage we have some same user ID in Netware and Win2003. From my knowlege we can not perform MSDSS to migrate users ID to win2003. We need to migrate the files with permission too. What is the best way to accomplish this goal? Please help!

First of all how many users are you talking? If you aren’t a consultant planning to do this many times, you could well be wasting your time and aadding confusion versus just doing the job right manually for as many as 50-100 users. You really have golden opportunity to reorganize logically. I know we actually found 10% of files (200 users) were orphaned and deletable.

When I say this I mean building the 2003 machine with the new AD, accounts, and file folders with permissions in advance of final file move day. Better yet do a non-production trial with select users and get everyone’s password input on 2003 accounts before the final file refresh for going production. I’d actually move NT4 files this way first then NDS files later to break up the effort required.

Hi all, FYI we have around 20 users currently joined to NT domain, 40 users are login to Netware 4.1 and the rest of 20 users are standalone. The NT users also have same user ID in Netware 4.1 and permission to login.
