Not allowed to edit Microsoft Access forms

A previous employee built a very usable db, and has gone on to greener pastures. It isn't password protected. When we try to edit the db with new fields or change wording in fields, it asks if we want to exit the app. if Yes is clicked, it exits the app and Access. We use Office Pro 2003. Any help is very appreciated.

Does it offer "No" as an answer? If so, what happens when you select "No"?
It sounds to me like something to do with User and Group permissions. Are you using a workgroup to manage security?
