I am troubleshooting a Compaq evo D300v minitower computer. It has been giving the user non system disk errors with no disk in the drive. And sometimes it gives the blue screen of death after the message. Could this be a problem with the power supply, or some sort of hardware problem? It is running windows XP pro and has not had any trouble until now we have had these xomputers for three years and sometimes have problems with power surges and spikes.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Have seen this king of thing happen with faulty sensor on floppy drive, thinks there is a disk in even when there is not. Presume could also happen with CD-Drive. Try disconnecting Floppy/CD-drive and see if problem goes away.

Could be a number of things but I think you are on the right track. Check all connections and try removing devices one by one such as floppy or CD ROM to see if problem is resolved.

The computer BIOS is not seeing any working bootable hard drive or any bootable cd or bootable floppy disk. Most probably your hard drive is not booting. Reason #1 All programs in your hard drive may be erased Reason #2 The booting files in your hard drive has been erased Reason #3 Your hard drive cable may be loose Reason #4 Your hard drive may be stoped working. Please check all of these resons and if you need my help to fix the problem contact me directly to easy111@bellnet.ca Kuna
