We have recently deployed an SBS 2003 server with SP2 with the assistance of our local "server guru". Exchange is not configured for the company use at the moment, but should be sending reports out every morning. Currently, two out of three persons on the delivery list are unable to recieve reports - the system shows a MSD Exchange Transport error as above. The "server guru" says the problem must be at the receiving end, as he is able to get these daily reports - but that doesn't help us correct the situation to enable our own notifications. Any thoughts or suggestions very welcome....this is beyond what we do in-house at the moment.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Can you provide some more details as where the rejection message is coming from? It should be in the NDR message. Take a look at this site about rejected messages and see if any of this could fit your situation. If it is the destination site rejecting it for sure, something may need to be done with your public MX record or trusted-sender record to allow you to send to that domain. They may have to white-list your domain or system to permit it to receive your messages.

The message is: A non-delivery report with a status code of 5.1.8 was generated for recipient rfc822; (whichever email address it was this time) followed by a message id and the server name. The source is MSExchange Transport, Event id 3030 We added other email addresses into the set up, to see if it was just our domain that could not be reached....but this additional address not only doesn't recieve a report, there is no NDR generated on it's behalf. We need to find a new server guru who will clear up our problems in a timely manner....but in the meantime, we would just like to see our daily reports, if only we can figure out why we aren't getting them!

I opened Port 25 on the router yesterday, and the performance reports were delivered properly this morning. Could it be that simple?

Yes, you have to permit outbound port 25 on your firewall to deliver outside of your network. Thanks for the follow-up.
