no external harddrive (usb type) will work on my pc,

the device manager all looks good. no conflicks, i show the Extended usb, The usb ports did work about a year ago on ANY usb hard drive, NOW THEY DO NOT, but my computor works fine other wise. all my usb flash drives work great. why  cant i see the usb external hard drive IN MY COMPUTOR. ?

The USB external drive may be assigned a drive letter already in use which would not allow you to show up within windows explorer. Open Up Disk Management and first see if your drive shows up there and if so, assign it a new drive letter.

One other thing you can try is uninstalling your usb ports in device manager. Reboot and they will re-install. May resolve your issue. This has fixed usb issues I have had in the past.

    I've had to reload Windows on my system to resolve this issue in the past. As long as you have a good backup it's a lot simpler than troubleshooting something like this.
