I am getting lots of instances of users with the below error message: ngen.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application. I have noticed this in previous companies and you can normally click OK and that's it. However, on this occasion it wont go away and quite a few users are effected. They are able to push the error into the corner and work over it but obviously i would be grateful to find out the root cause. Any ideas guys?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

In normal situations, ngen.exe is a windows process, part of the .Net framework, but it could also be some kind of malware depending on the location of the executable file.

You should make sure those machines are not infected with any malware, and if they aren’t you could try installing the last version of the .Net framework to see if that solves the problem.

I have got a them to do a full reboot and it seems to have cleared the error for now. One of the other engineers said it might refer to graphics cards issue...i wasn't so sure : You think? They are definitley not infected. The users are based in an investment bank and security it tip top! No hardware can be plugged into the desktop machines, the ports have been disbaled on their machines.

Are there any reasons why he thinks it is related to graphics cards ? Did you replace graphics cards recently ? Also, when did this problem start ? Did it start at the same time (or about) on all clients having the problem ? I would suspect of some software installed or some windows update applied recently. Have you checked the event logs to see if there is something useful there ?
