i made a copy of the application library ,,, make reorganize after closing all order entry files and end all active jobs it deleted all the marked records without destroying any files data and i could add new records

Since you changed the member/record limit to “*nomax”, that is not the problem. Could there be a numeric key value for each record and you have reached the max value??? There could be a control record or data area with a max limit of records that could be stopping you.

of course no i didn’t add that many i am just trying to find a solution so the only way is to wait for a message telling me what is happening

If the files are set for *NOMAX, there is no additional expansion. The *NOMAX value tells the system to allow as many records as a physical file can hold. A single file member can hold 4 billion records. Have you added that many? — Tom

The messages for expanding some files appeared before and i answered it 9999 and it worked for a while … so i am asking is there a limitation to expand physical files… if so , is there a way to increase this limitation

That’s because the quantity of records is not what the problem is. But we don’t know the problem. We don’t know why a record isn’t added. It’s more likely related to some element of referential integrity or basic business rules. The integrity rules might encapsulated in the database definition or in program logic. A business rule might prevent a record being added because some flag in a control record is set the wrong way. No matter what, the place for us to look is the joblog messages. Even if the problem isn’t explained there, other message elements can tell us other places to look. Until then, there are no hints. — Tom

IN FACT . i could get the list of files that the addition form add data to them .. i changed initial number of records to NOMAX, and maximum member to NOMAX , i did that to all these files but i still have the problem

Assuming we know what a “form” is, you can possibly run DSPJOB against the job that is attempting to add the record. Option 14 from the ‘Display Job’ menu will list any open files. If the program that displays the form is also the program that updates any database files, then the list of files might give names. You can also run DSPPGMREF against involved programs to see if files are listed.

It’s not clear what good that will do. Since you restored the library, you can already get a list of database fles. Unfortunately, if we don’t know why records aren’t added, we don’t know what to do with any files.

The joblog messages from the job that fails to add records are needed.

IN fact i solved this problem my replace the whole library to older copy … but i am sure i will face the same problem soon again … Just one more thing ,,, when i open the addition form and try to add new record it say record not added .. is there away to know the files related to this addition form … someone told me there is a query to know the files that this form add records to it
