I’d say that the first alternative is not to use IMPs at all, since they’ve been effectively obsolete for almost a quarter century. About the only reason to consider alternatives would be in academic study of the history of internetworking. So, can you explain a business reason for asking? But perhaps you are asking about some other kind of “IMP”? — Tom
