There is no clear cut answer to your question, ?What is the Best….? all of this is subjective.
Now for an easy tool that you will be able to use to scan your IP addresses I suggest Angry IP scanner from www.angryziber.com
It’s a great tool for retrieving information. It?s small and does not install on your system, it just runs from an executable on your desktop.

    My Personal Favourite is OCS Network Inventory Installs a client which can be re-run whenever you would like the system/network information updated jus throw it in the login script. Warning: Don't run on Windows Server 2003 (Terminal Services) it wont anhiliate the box or anything drastic it just really slows it down and some process crashes...can't remember doesn't really matter..I only have a limited no. of users on TS anyway so i can keep track of them. Download ocs network inventory from sourceforge google it.
