Network test lab

Networking Products, Network test equipment

Hi,

I need to set up a network test lab to create a virtual scenario of my clients network,

components include 2 Routers, 2 L3 switch preferably (juniper products), 1 Pix firewall and some couple of desktops.

I would be happy if any one can provide me a base level hardware inventory for these products to create a test lab.

note: Budget is limited, so all suggestions on the price of the products are welcome. Looking for the least product.

Thanks and regards,

Flake

I've done the same but not with juniper products. And always get the best your budget will stretch too.
If you dont have the budget to buy new then the only option is second hand. If you know juniper products then you know what you want its more a case of what can you afford and where can you get them.

I went secondhand Cisco which did the job BIGTIME and after much heartache I found EBay the answer.
I found the 800 series router to be fine, i then went for Cisco 1900 and 2100 switches. Pix firewall (EBay)
Cant really help on the juniper products as not worked with them but for routing and switching Cisco are hard to beat and If you can work the IOS you can work and understand most other products.

thanks for the response

Will try out the prices in Ebay. Also need to know about 3550 series switches for some Vlan configuration. what would be the average costing for setting up a test lab with all these components

2 - 1800 series routers
1- 3550 series L3 switch
2- 2950 series switches
1- 501 series Pix firewall

all prices (average), fresh out of box or second hand is also welcomed.

Not to toot our own horn too much, but there are some tips on SearchNetworking.com that may be useful to you as well. Try starting with this one: “Staging labs for network engineering,” which provides advice for creating and using a staging lab. It includes some links to related materials that may help you, too.

Good luck!
