    In a short answer, network topology is such a mechanism where computer systems/network devices are connected to each other. Topologies may define both physical and logical view of the network. Both logical and physical topologies could be same or different in a same network. However the answer is broad and there are different types of network.     Although you have to read good books on networking for your solid knowledge.
