 Network link failure
I have a Client/Server based network consisting of one server, one storage device, one client pc and a remote client pc that connects through a modem. the local and remote clients access the storage device via the server. The problem i have encountered is that the storage device link intermittently fails and recovers automatically as evidence when using TCP Communication spy. What could be causing the break to the link and what should i do to clear this problem?

Answer Wiki:
One possibility would be to make sure that the duplex and speed settings are hard coded to match the switch port. But more likely than not it would probably be a Network interface card issue or the cable. Have you tested the equipment and cable? I use a standard network tester to test the cable then I check the switch by connecting two ports together including the one that might be faulty. If it is a managed switch I monitor the ports as well. If all else fails move it to a different port switch the cable and make sure the duplex settings are the same on both side. If this doesn't work let me know and I will continue to troubleshoot.
