Network forensics
I am currently a final year student studying forensic computing. i was hoping someone could give me some information regarding network forensics, i would like to know if there is a need for development in this area, what is the current views on networking with regards to gathering of forensic data over a network, and forensic analysis of network activity?

also are there any correct step/procedures that need to followed when carrying out a network forensic investgiation?

There is a Certified Hacking Forensic Investigator certification from EC Council that can give you a good baseline for the steps. SANS also has forensic courses.

There’s a lot to know about becoming a forensics specialist. I’d recommend checking out the ISFCE which offers a widely-recognized certification in this area.

Just proceed with caution…apparently some people have the idea that computer forensics examiners should be licensed PI’s. Just like any other degree (i.e. M.D.), license (i.e. P.I.), or certification (i.e. CISSP) - none of them mean you’re all of a sudden going to know your stuff and provide quality services.
