Answer Wiki:
One of the best combinations I've found for a "network Engineer" is a healthy mix of certifications (CCNA, CCNP, RHCT, MCSE, etc) and formal education - Bachelors-Masters degrees... The Degrees only prove that you have a firm grasp of the theory and ideals behind the technology, the certs more or less prove you know what you're doing and can actually DO the job. (Cisco is world-famous for making their certs extremely "real-world" just for that purpose...)

More important – experiance.

This is a shame but yep the certs get you in the door but hands on for allot of people is more important.

And there-in lies the Catch 22: Need to get experience, but cant get a job without it.. Certs were designed to let others know that you do have SOME experience with the technology you’ve certified in…

Just go to a technical school to earn your degree. Something like pheonixTs in Baltimore, MD. That’s what I did. You don’t necessarily need a bachelors degree. They even helped me find a job. Sometimes in universities you get caught up in other things that you forget to get some elementary training. When you go to a technical school, you’re all there for business.
