Linux won’t recognize Ethernet card

I have a wonderful Dell 2350 However Linux doesn't seem to recognize my Ethernet card. The card its a broadcom 440x that's built into the motherboard.

Check the power configuration settings. It may be disabled when the computer is on battery power. Please also provide details about what OS is running on the computer. Check also this how-to about ethernet adapters under linux. Type iwconfig or ifconfig to see if the card is shown in a terminal window. Here’s another good how-to for you.

    Have you tried with text based installation ! There are various ways to install linux on a laptop/ desktop. However not much details were found here. If it really doesn't work, you have to add extra linux compatible network card for smooth functioning. Though I am not very sure, what was the actual problem behind it that linux did not support this Ethernet card.
