Hi, I'm assuming its a wired lan network 100mbs? With regards to the slow logon, how many users are logging on at the same time? are all there profiles stored on one server? what are the specs? what this servers memory and processor useage at logon time(control alt del)?

The programs.....are they all installed on one server and then ran in multiple instances for each user? if so you will need a BEAST of a machine for alot of users. I suggest you install the porgrams you mentioned locally on each machine and then create a share for the documents created by each.

I think windows task manager will be enough to help you, you can check your hardware being used and network utilisation, it will show you the weak link. Good luck.
