Network
I'm not really sure but I believe that this is a netwoprk issue, we have been experincing that some of our PC's either take to long to logon to windows domain, also some of the applications take to long to open (three min or more) e.g. Lotus Notes, iSeries emulator, IE, and, some times if they have to many (more than three aplications open) the PC frezees up. How can test our network? we don't have network tools is any other way to find out if it's a network issue?.

Look at the NIC's on the troubled computers. See if there are any errors shown on the interfaces. Also check the switch ports on the servers and clients for duplex settings. Set all servers & switch ports servicing them to the maximum possible speed and match duplex settings. This will help first of all with some likely issues that exist on your LAN.

What are the specs on these machines? It sounds like it could be a PC hardware issue.
Hi, I’m assuming its a wired lan network 100mbs? With regards to the slow logon, how many users are logging on at the same time? are all there profiles stored on one server? what are the specs? what this servers memory and processor useage at logon time(control alt del)?
The programs…..are they all installed on one server and then ran in multiple instances for each user? if so you will need a BEAST of a machine for alot of users. I suggest you install the porgrams you mentioned locally on each machine and then create a share for the documents created by each.
I think windows task manager will be enough to help you, you can check your hardware being used and network utilisation, it will show you the weak link. Good luck.
