NetIQ competitors for evaluation
Product evaluation, NetIQ, argent, Quest, BMC Software, SolarWinds
I'm reviewing NetIQ products and trying to find products that might be similar from other companies for comparison. I found a few resources, e.g. http://www.topmonitoringvendors.com
which suggests Argent, Quest and BMC Software, but does anyone have any other leads. I was half thinking SolarWinds, but?

The question becomes what requirement are you looking for as per comparison with NetIQ. There are hundreds of players in this market. You can get a single-solution to view everything but it may not provide you the information in detail as compared to "specialized" products. Quest and BMC Software have a whole spectrum of solutions that you can think of but it can become costly over time. Some names you may want to look at is Manage Engine http://www.manageengine.com/, Nimsoft www.nimsoft.com, and one hardware monitoring solution with different components from ScienceLogic's EM7 http://www.sciencelogic.com/.

As Aquacer0 points out above, there are many choices available for server/application monitoring today. You mentioned SolarWinds above so I thought I would respond and say that you should definitely include Orion APM (Application Performance Monitor) within the products that you evaluate. You can download Orion from free from and try it out for free. It can be installed, configured, and up and running in under an hour.

Of course, my opinion can’t exactly be considered to be unbiased as I’ve worked here at SolarWinds and helped to build the products that we offer for several years. So, don’t trust me.
