Netbios transmitting to port 80
Hi all,
I have a strange issue with file sharing on my windows vista home premium PC in that file sharing is no loner working. After
sniffing my network traffic I have found that netbios request are being sent to port 80 and have no idea why. If I attempt to
access a share using
\<IP address> a request is sent to that IP address but using port 80 instead of 139. I have looked at a couple of things after a
web search including ensuring IPV6 is disabled which it is and that the TCP/IP Netbios Service is running. ( Although Im not to
sure what this service does). Netbios is enabled on the interface in question with the default setting of enabling it unless DHCP
tells it otherwise ( which my dhcp does not do).
I havent yet tried desabling Nebios and using filesharing over 445 but that will not cure the problem.

I recently saw this on devices that were accessing a link on a website that actually went back to a standard Windows fileshare location for the file. In other words, the client clicked on a link on a website, the link pointed to a \servernamesharefile. All of the traffic was over PORT 80 and actually went through the webserver rather than directly between the fileserver and the end client.
Check the services running on the destination "server" see what is listening on port 80 using netstat or other tools like TCPView from Sysinternals (Microsoft).
