Netapps FAS960 vs. HP EVA 3000/5000


Storage, Tech support, Hardware, HP, Network Appliance

Hi All,
Does anyone know off hand were to get something comprehensive that will compare performace of the netapps kit and the HP kit mentioned in the subject line. I realise there is alot of different scenarios around FC and isci etc, what i am looking for is something that will outline the max performace for each piece of equipment in each scenario, i.e i/o's per second, read write speeds etc. If anyone know were i can get this information either seperately for HP and netapps or as one document this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried http://www.spec.org/osg/sfs97r1/results/sfs97r1.html , there are definately results for the FAS960, and lots of HP kit but not sure if the EVA is listed. Plus it may be the older version of Data ONTAP, and I think v7 brings performance improvements.

That’s a pretty tall order. Many vendors use the same hardware or hardware with very similar performance characteristics. Your best bet for impartial results might be spec.org.

Of course, you can always talk to your NetApp sales rep and your HP sales rep and ask for the same information. If you tell each vendor that you’re issuing an RFI (request for information) for these facts with a sale contigent on the results, they might be very accomodating.

thanks for your information guys, I have looked at the website you mentioned and even though not ideal for now, will definately come in handy in the future. The problem with approaching the vendors is that we are highly unlikely to get an unbiased review of there kit. One of our clients is looking for an independant review to settle a purchasing debate. Any other information still welcomed. Thanks again
