Need to shutdown Exchange server

we need to shut down our Exchange server for some maintainence work for about 3 hours,can any one tell me what the step that has to be taken care that after starting Exchange again, it work smothly.and is there any thing that has to do to Mailbox server.

i have restarted / shutdown email servers before, all you need to do is when the thing is up you can just do some testing by sending emails to int and ext to see if connection is ok…

    Agree w/ Jinteik - there's really no secret / special procedure to rebooting most windows servers. Just verify the services are running and test settings / traffic once it comes up...

    Hello Redhot2006, As already said, it must be something very wrong if by shutting down an Exchange Server you'll need to worry about... Even you can do it just out-of-the-box, (Start Menu -> Shutdown), for shutting down or rebooting purposes, there is a procedure that can get you extra time if your server is also a DC. In case your server is also a DC, you might need to wait 15 to 30 minutes. Yes that's right. To speed things up, please read this little article which also provides a batch file that allows you to Reboot or Shutdown the server more quickly. It shuts down the main AD and Exchange services in order to prevent them to time out, this way speeding things up. HTH
