 Need new backup solution for 1TB of data

We are looking for a new type of backup for our server. We currently are using a tape drive but the tapes are worn and do not meet our storage needs. We have received some quotes on different products and we aren't sure what is the best way to go. Right now our options are a NAS storage unit, a hard drive dock, an new tape drive, and our IT consultants are offering some type of data recovery and storage through them. Our server holds a TB and we would like our storage to do the same. We would also like our storage system to be able to rotate out so we can take a copy of the backup off site.

Look into Data Deduplication. It is like email archiving but it reduces the amount of data you need to store on your servers and tapes. EMC is a good vendor to ask.

What is your current tape format? LTO-2,3,4 or something else?

For backing up 1TB of data, ideal would be convert yourself in FC and have it part of the SAN ( San Media Server)

If it is not compatible then the data needs to be multiplexed based on the NIC capacity and the backup window avaiable.

What is the backup Window available and is this 1 TB data size is “incr”, “dinc” or full backup type …

Hi Itke,

I work with IBM and you could do a simple SAN set up and that would allow you to backup, access, and manage all your data. For the amount of data you have you could look at the IBM DS3200 is a versatile array and easy to use, maintain, and setup. I will leave some links and information here for you. Depending on how many servers and users this would be a good fit for your needs and it is also competitively priced.
