I set the IP address on the 6400 and save it as perscribed. Printer has ethernet card in it. When I attache the network cable (cat5) to the printer the IP address changes. When I go to change the IP address the message " dynamically set, param read only" appeares momentarally, then goes away. If I unplug the cable, turn the printer off, and back on, the IP address I set originally is back. When I plug the cable back in the IP address changes. Have DHCP disabled. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If the answer cannot be found in the manual which came with the printer I would definitely call the manufacturer for support on this one.

Here is some information to help undestand how to set an IP on a printer. Hope this helps, as I dont have enough infomation to directly answer your question. Config Method: Allows you to choose between the available configuration methods for IP addresses (DHCP, BOOTP, etc.) BootP= (Yes/No). Uses BOOTP or DHCP, which automatically downloads configuration data over the network. The default setting is YES to use BOOTP or DHCP for configuration. Change this to NO to use the front-panel configuration. DHCP=(Yes/No). Uses DHCP, which automatically downloads configuration data over the network. The default setting is YES to use DHCP for configuration. Change this to NO to use the front-panel configuration. Auto IP= (Yes/No). If you choose BOOTP=NO* and DHCP=NO*, you can choose AUTO IP=YES* to have a link-local default IP address of 169.254.x.x assigned automatically. Manual: (Yes/No). Allows the IP address to be configured using the front panel of the printer.

Although you may have set the IP address on the printer, the problem is that the Ethernet Card in the printer is set to automatically request a new IP address. You can change this by accessing the printer using a web browser. eg: http://<IP address of printer>. However the printer may not have html access switched on. If this is the case, then you will need to telnet to the printer from the dos command. eg: telnet <Ip Address of printer>. In both cases (via telnet and via browser) , the default username is 'root' and the password is blank. Switch on html access as follows :- config html on save reset Now access the printer via a browser Navigate to Network and un-tick RARP, BOOTP and DHCP Further info available :- http://www.buycoms.com/PDF/IBM%206400.pdf
