NAME BADGES - New Technology: Name Badges that interact and store data

Networking Products, Networking, Network management software, Networking Equipment, 802.11 networking equipment, Handheld devices, Development, Special-purpose software, Training products

I have heard about new technology in place whare there are Name Badges that interact and store data. These might be used at a trade show, seminar, conference, symposium, etc. where instead of regular paper name badges, attendees wear an electronic name badge that had their profile loaded on to it. As attendees come in contact with others, the other person's profile info is basically scanned and loaded automatically onto the other's name badge. Then a record of all whom that person met along with each person's profile can be accessed later to track who attended, what types of people were there, contact info, other profile data, etc. Although I have heard of this technology, and briefly may have even seen some ads, I need help identifying and contacting companies that have these technologically advanced name badges. Can anyone help me out? Thank you.

What you are looking for has been around in various configurations for over a decade. Check out RFID Journal (http://www.rfidjournal.com/) for a large listing of specifics, including case studies and vendor studies, of badges that require no contact.

There are also a variety of cards where data is exchanged by both parties using a read/write machine.

Yes, the technology is available and beng used by a number of conference companies and others to automatically tracj attendees and visitors within a pre-determined space. The badges might contain passive technology, which is activated when passed near a compatible reader; or active technology, which is intermittently broadcasting small bits of information. In fact, a number of amusement parks - such as DisneyWorld - are looking into the technology so that visitors can track family membes and park can manage crowds and better serve its clientele.

Once company that has developed a turnkey method to produce inexpensive tags is ConnecTerra, based in Cambridge, MA. They mostly focus on retail applications, bt the tags can also be adapted for badge-wearing conference-goers as well.
