 my outlook is frozen and I cannot dismiss reminders

what can I do to clear this error message" Cannot postpone the reminder. the file C:XXXXXX mailbox.pst could not be assessed

This problem generally occurs due to corruption in some system files of Microsoft Outlook, Oversized PST file or sometimes due to the sever corruption in outlook.pst files.
