PC/Windows Connectivity
Hi I created a VBA Excel program to get data from our AS/400 It works on my pc but not my boss's. It says 'connection failed' He has Client Access installed. What would he be missing? It seems like from the connection string below that he would need Client Access Driver but isn't that automatically installed if he has Client Access. Is there an easy way to do this so there isn't a complicated setup for each user? Here is the connection string I use. 'Create query to retrieve individual records.. Set qtDetail = ws.QueryTables.Add( _ Connection:="ODBC;DRIVER={Client Access ODBC Driver (32-bit)};UID=" & getUID & ";PWD=" & getPWD & ";SYSTEM=999.25.0.99;DBQ=QGPL AXXDTA;DFTPKGLIB=QGPL;LANGUAGEID=ENU;PKG=QGPL/DEFAULT(IBM),2,0,1,0,512;TRANSLATE=1;SIGNON=1;", _ Destination:=ws.Range("A4")) Any help much appreciated

Hello,

Try going into c:windowssystem32odbcad32.exe and make sure that ODBC data soucre is labeled the same.

<i>…isn’t that automatically installed if he has Client Access.</i>

No.

Except for maybe the base “required” components, very little useful components are “automatically” installed. None of the data transfer components, and not even Navigator, are “automatically” installed. That is, they may be generally selected by default (assuming it wasn’t a silent install) and they may be deselected by accident or on purpose.

Choose the "Selective Setup" from "iSeries Access for Windows" on the start menu. Choose the remove option(this will give a list of installed components - you won't be removing and can cancel) Open up the "Data Access" section. If you are using ODBC then you need to have this option installed. When you setup Client Access you can choose to install selected parts, you need this part. You can do a selective setup on the machines that need it to only add this component.

If your process is using the file transfer component of Client Access you will need to check that it is also installed on the PC. Use the Selective setup and check the Data Access section and verify the file transfer is installed.
