Does MVS have a parameter or an address location storing the name of current running job, and the name of the  current running job’s PREDECESSOR?   The name of the jobs predecessor is very important.  The current running job needs to 'look back' and determine who its predecessor was.  It would be helpful to also be able to access the current schedule name. I am hoping these exist so as to be retrievable by a REXX. Any assistance you can provide I will appreciate. We are a: sysjes----JES2 z/OS1.13 SHOP Sorry I wasn't clear. I am speaking within a batch schedule. In the batch schedule I need to retieve the name of the job that on successful completion (the predecessor, say job 'A') releases the successor job, say 'B.' In this job, 'B', I want to link back to a control block(?) to get the predecessor's name, 'A.' I can retieve the name of the job 'B' from the TCB. It looks like the TCB has entries that link it to the previous TCB, (TCBBACK?). I don't know if jobs within a batch schedule are linked via control blocks and which control block I need to access to get 'A's name. I hope this helps. thanks bc

I'm not clear at all how you could define "current running job’s PREDECESSOR" in a MVS environment. In a multi-tasking, multi-processing evironment where scheduling and priorities can change second by second and potentially thousands of jobs competing, I'm not sure that "PREDECESSOR" has any useful meaning.   Please provide a clear definition that might help. Are you interested in jobs for a specific user? I don't have an answer, but anything you can add might give a clue to someone.   Tom
