What is the easiest way to share a spreadsheet between multiple users in Excel? If I am setup in a work group environment and need multiple users to use the same spreadsheet, I know you can do the "select Share Workbook under the Tools menu" but how does that affect saving edits for each user if it is open by another user? What other options are available?

It is better to allow users enter and edit data in a true database (consider Access) that designed from the ground up to be a multi-user application, and then bring data into Excel for analysis using either an external data range or a pivot table.

Multi-users in Excel can be tricky (aka a P.I.T.A) at times. If you have multiple users making several changes/saves, they would need to constantly refresh the file to get the latet changes. Seen this make a huge mess of things with more than 1-2 people on it. Like Rechil mentioned, a DB would be a cleaner option...

Thanks for the feed back. Can anyone speak on how a database would work in a "workgroup" environment?

We use a shared spreadsheet in our office. We only have four people using it and probably only edit and/or save about once an hour. It works fine at that usage rate. I agree that it probably would not work well if you had more people or more updates.
