Q:
Moving Virtual Machines off and on server - VMware ESX 3.5
I have 3 virtual machines on 1 Dell Poweredge server that is running VMware ESX 3.5. I want to increase the storage space on this server so is it possible to move the VM's off this server while i make the changes and reinstall ESX and add the VM's back?

If you have a second host, you need to use Virtual Center Server which is $5,000 for the license. It does, however, have a 60 day trial. Otherwise you can use Virtual Center Backup to backup snapshots of the machines and restore them on a second server, then restore them back to the original server once you are done.

There are several ways you can do this which I have covered in this recent blog post.
