Moving to a new domain with exchange 2007
Our organization currently has a domain that runs Exchange 2003 on Server 2003. We are replacing the old setup (machines and all) with new equipment and a new domain. The old domain is NNVC and the new one is NNVC.local. NNVC has an Exchange 2003 server. The new set up has Exchange 2007. My question is: How do I replicate all of the users mailboxes, contacts, distribution groups and shared calenders on the new Exchange Server? I can't just add the new server to the old domain because of the new AD. Can I create a trust relationship between the two and replicate the data over? I appreciate any help or advice. Answer Wiki:
Quick question would be why are you setting up a new domain? The easiest would be to just add this new Exchange 2007 to your existing Exchange organization and then migrate everyone's mailbox over. If you plan on doing the new domain route, then you can create an inter-forest trust between them. Migrate mailboxes which would create new accounts (identical to previous accounts) in the new domain. I've seen this work with no problems but I have seen issues as well. Depending on how many mailboxes/users you are "recreating", the migration process may take awhile. Definitely do them in phases. Create some brand new mailboxes on the old Exchange 2003 and then migrate those accounts over.
