"No it should not cause any mechanical problems."

Hate to say this, but it could.

A couple of years back we needed to move an old server which had been running uninterruptedly for a long time. We shut it down for at most 10 minutes and when we tried to power it up it didn't start. The reason ? The hard disk failed.

So, if it is a critical server you might want to (and should) be prepared in case something goes wrong.

If it is going to stay on the same VLAN and keep the same IP there are no pitfalls. Will it be keeping these the same?

It will be the same VLAN and IP address. Should I be concern about old drives? Will moving those old boxes could cause “mechanical” problems?

One thing is very necessary, that I think, Whatever u do, before doing anything with the server, u should take all necessary backups including registry, important data, AD and whatever u think that r necessary…. Without taking proper backup, it may fatal for the server.

Just make sure that you have backups before you power down the system in case of a failure.
