Hello all,               A network was set for a small school of which a student information system must be accessed by all on a server. But anytime thre are a maximum of  people on the network,no one is able to join.It diplays a message that reads;there are enough people on the netwok and you cannot join. The all the computers are running on windows xp sp3 including the server. What could be the problem. Kobby

Pentium 4 1 gb ram,80 gb hdd

maybe more information is needed like are you using AD? are you using DHCP? if yes then what i the number or IP that you allow to automatically reach the other users? how about switch connection?

how many users are connected to the network?

    Maybe the message is misleading, and the problem occurs when trying to log in to the students information system, and has nothing to do with the network itself. More details are definitely needed.

    If your information system is accessed through a share on the "server WinXP", then you should keep in mind that WinXP has a limit of 10 concomitant connections to a shared resource... Petko

    It definitely sounds like a connection limit or licensing limit of some type. Please provide more details about the environment (information system name & version, number of clients successful). Can this be replicated on demand? In other words, can you make it happen when X+1 number of users connects to the system? What is the value for X?
