Hi i am using an internet connection of 1Mbps. i have like 50 users who are usgin through LAN DHCP . all are connected lynksys  router  and with ehternet cable . Some time my internet is becoming slow . I want to know which IP is utilizing more bandwidth . Al users are windows XP/ Vista comuters. So Please suggest me the software free. Thanks in advance Ksr 1234

In order to monitor that at the network switch level you'll need a managed switch such as a cisco catalyst switch or a higher end router. You could setup an ISA server and route all the internet network traffic through that to see who is using the most bandwidth. If your LinkSys supports any sort of logging that may also give you an idea on who is using the bandwidth. Keep in mind that 1 Meg of bandwidth for 50 people is not a lot. My office with about 20 people has a 100 Meg link to the Internet. And my house with two people has a 18 Meg network connection. With just a few people doing normal web surfing that 1 Meg connection will fill up pretty quickly.

It depends on what the users are doing on the internet connection. I have sites with >100 users using either T1 or E1 and the internet link is not overutilized. The key is to ensure that the link is used for business purposes only. Things like streaming media and frequent or large file transfers will saturate even a T1 link. To ensure the link is used for business purposes a web filter appliance like 8e6 or Websense is useful. See this similar question and answer. Let us know if you need additional assistance.
