Mix luns from 300 and 146gb drives when provisioning storage capacity
We need to add capacity to our EMC DMX4 which currently has 146 and 300gb 15k drives.  The 146gb drives may be difficult to get so my questions is given todays technology with drive IOPS, should it be a concern if I need to expand the amount of disk to an existing host that currently has 146gb drives with luns from some 300gb drives?  Should mixing luns assigned to a host from diffenernt drive geometries be a problem for relatively high IO applications of mixed random reads and writes?

Answer Wiki:
If you are asking if you can spread a single LUN across the 146 Gig and 300 Gig disks, then so you shouldn't do this as the disks won't all respond the same. If you are asking if you can present one LUN from the 146 gig disks and one from the 300 Gig disks this is fine so long as you know which data you are putting on each LUN. There shouldn't be any problems purchasing 146 Gig disks from EMC any more.
