 miniSAP as a test environment

Hi I am not a SAP developer rather a Java JEE developer. I wish to test Portal Factory (which uses the java JCo middelware product) to connect to a SAP R3 environment. Make calls to BAPIs etc. If I can get my hands on miniSAP will this suffice for a simple proof of concept. Ie connecting to SAP and browsing RPCs etc... Any help appreciated
