Migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003

Exchange 2003, Exchange 5.5, Citrix, Group Policy, Exchange migration

We're in the process of migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003, and with a majority of our employees in offices around the state connecting to us using Citrix, we need to setup a group policy that will automatically change their default exchange server. Is this at all possible?

Using the Office Resource Kit (ORK) you can make a transforms file for Office, which will install office in a custom way. One of the items you can customize is the Outlook Profile settings, so you can make it the logged in persons account by publishing at least Outlook this way.

Use the GPO to publish software, using the transforms file you created above, and you should have your solution.

Why would you go to Exchange 2003 when 2007 is out and has service pack 1? I would suspect that Exchange 2003 is nearing end of life.

There is no upgrade path from Exchange 5.5 to 2007 ! You must go to 2003 first, then upgrade to 2007!
