If I was to migrate a virtual machine between physical hosts, are there any potential processor related incompatibility problems that I should be aware of? This question is from the Microsoft Virtualization Chat held on August 27th.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

In general, the CPU should be of the generation/family, with the same features. If they are not, you can actually leverage a new feature in Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V called Processor Compatibility, which allows the migration of VMs from servers with any CPU, as long as they are the same vendor (Intel to Intel, AMD to AMD). That can be done on a per VM basis.
