This might be an easy question but I just opened a file in Microsoft Word that I previously saved on my desktop. But, now on the desktop, I'm seeing a file that's represented like this: ~$doc. Can someone tell me what type of file that is?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You are seeing a copy of the file that you initially opened.  When Word opens a file, It does not actually open the file.  It makes a copy of the file, and then opens the copy.  If it stays that way after you have saved  the file and then exited word, then it is possible that the files has been damaged and you may want to try and recover it and then resave it.
