We have been using Cognos front-end with SQL 2005 back-end for about 1.5 yrs - using SSIS for copying/transforming data from Cognos to our accounting system, but not using SSAS with it (and no plans to that I'm aware of). Just have the normal DBA jobs to dynamically back up any user database nightly ( databases = 'stores' in Cognos) and perform other normal maintenance jobs, such as shrinking the logs - since the db's are in simple mode, and the normal health checks. Otherwise we just monitor the databases for disk space usage and try to touch them as little as possible - don't want to break the app ;) Internally we have another team that uses the Cognos front-end - we DBAs just keep it running smoothly.
Cognos, SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS
Is there anyone out there that is working or has worked with a Microsoft back-end (SQL SVR 2005, SSIS, SSAS) and a Cognos front end ? What is your experience with this ?
