Has anyone been successful in setting up the group policy on Windows 2000 Professional computers for windows update (wuau) to point to and automatically download the updates from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com? I can point to my own SUS server and this works, but not if I point the policy to the Microsoft server: Start, Run, gpedit.msc

Why would you want to do that. The point of SUS is to preserver bandwith and have some management control. If you want to do that you could use the built in Windows update feature on a host based need that can do that. You would have to have the host outside the GP OU in order to avoid the GP to overwrite the local settings. However you wouldn't have much control with it.
